Nissan March Rio 2016 Edition Is a Micra with a Gold Body Kit

Together with the Kicks concept, Nissan is also expected to roll out the March Rio 2016 Edition during the upcoming Sao Paulo Motor Show later this week. Photos and a few technical details have already been released, giving us a clear picture of what's essentially a Micra hatch with a body kit.

As the name suggests, this Nissan March special edition is built to celebrate the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. That's probably why the Japanese automaker designed it to look like an athlete, with chunky, muscular augmentations and accents in gold, the color of champions. Is that a white T-shirt you're wearing Micra, or is it a toga?

As you might expect for something designed to be sold in Brazil, power comes from a flex fuel engine that will spend most of its life burning ethanol, not gasoline. At its best, the 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit delivers 110 hp (83 kW) and is capable of spurring the sprinter to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 191 km/h (119 mph). If this were a rival for Usain Bolt, we would be impressed, but as a performance car, the Nissan March Rio 2016 Edition doesn't really cut the mustard.

However, we're huge fans of the body kit, which adds character, especially around the lower front bumper. It's like one of those chin implants that make scrawny men look tough. The back isn't too bad either, as the black painted roof is continued by a very nice boot lid spoiler. Who else thinks this is what the Micra should have looked like from the start?
