Nissan GT-R, Supra, Toyobaru, Hellcat and Prius Are Overrated

Vehicle Virgins released a video where five of the most overrated cars in the world are highlighted. Obviously, we don't agree with everything being said, but the guy makes a good point.

The first car to face the firing squad is the Nissan GT-R. Many years ago, I wrote a piece saying the Nurburgring lap time of the GT-R Nismo was irrelevant. That unleashed hell on R35-loving forums, with people uncovering all sort of personal information in an effort to tar and feather me.

So when Vehicle Virgins said the fans of the GT-R are "the most annoying fans of all time," I felt vindicated. While I do agree that the car has become way too expensive, there is one upside: the 2017 model year, which has a much nicer interior. If you have to own a GT-R, try that one.

The comments made about the Toyota Supra are relevant for any other classic Japanese sports coupe. I don't have any personal grudge with the Supra, but there are American cars that are much easier to tune.

As for the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86, I would never go as far as to call them overrated. Sure, the Miata can be more fun, but I've seen people stuffing all four alloys and tires into the trunk of the Toyobaru. Try that with an MX-5!

The Hellcat is possibly the coolest American car currently in production. And everything that embodies a superlative is almost always overrated - iPhones, DJI Phantom drones... you name it. So if you own one, don't take this personally.

The Prius thing is the weirdest of all. I can agree that hybrids aren't actually going to save the environment, but that stuff about Nickel mining and batteries has been around for at least a decade. It's what the people who ride bicycles and eat out of dumpsters want you to believe. Every car, hybrid or not, has a battery, and the 2016 Prius probably does more for the environment than the Model S. Remember, it's not enough to run on electricity, how much of it is used is just as important.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
