The all-electric Nissan Leaf hatchback is finally making the trip to Australian shores and will be available starting June 2012. Today the Japanese automaker has revealed that it will retail for the MSRP of AUD51,500.

At first only 13 dealers in built-up urban areas of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Perth will be qualified to sell and service the EV, with Nissan to add more in coming years. Customers who want a Leaf will first be scrutinized to see if their homes’ electric network can stand up to a charging station.

Up to this point, almost 20,000 Leafs have been delivered to customers worldwide since it’s been launched. But they have a lot of money riding on this car, and expect at least 250,000 EV sales a year by 2014, including new variants.
