Japanese automaker Nissan will probably discontinue the Altima Coupe, a US company representative said on Monday.
Speaking to Automotive News, Nissan US sales boss Al Castignetti has revealed that the low volume selling Altima Coupe will probably get the axe before being updated to the fifth generation design. However, the coupe version, which is offered with Altima’s previous generation body style, will remain in Nissan’s lineup for the 2013 model year.
The Nissan Altima coupe was introduced in 2008, 15 years after the first generation four-door sedan Altima, also called Bluebird, was launched. In other related news, the Nissan Altima surpassed the Toyota Camry to become the best-selling car in the United States last month.
"The message that's clear in our achievement is that the mid-sized segment no longer has a mammoth in it," Castignetti sayd. "We're all good now. We're all scrapping for a piece of the pie. It's going to be harder now for anybody to dominate the segment, and it's going to be naive for anybody who used to be the sales leader to think they can just sit back and dominate."
