According to the latest news coming from Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing, it seems the Venezuelan driver is scheduled to test for the 8-time Champ Car winning team during this week's meeting at Homestead-Miami. The information has shortly led to rumors about a potential 3rd car fielded by NHL for Duno in 2009.
Having ran selected events for SAMAX and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing teams throughout the last 2 years inside the Indy Car Series, Duno was linked with a full-time seat with NHL Racing for the new season. Benefiting from a considerable budget to back her staying in the series, the 36-year old South American was in pole position for joining Graham Rahal in the team's driver lineup.
However, all those rumors ended a few days ago, when NHL Racing confirmed their 2nd full-time entry for the new season as belonging to former F1 driver Robert Doornbos. The Dutch driver seemed to have impressed team owner Carl Haas a few years ago, at his debut in the Champ Car Series, when he gave Sebastien Bourdais a run for the 2007 title driving for Minardi Team USA.
With the sponsorship package for Doornbos' entry yet to be finalized, it is possible for him and Duno to share the same car throughout the 2009 season. The team is yet to disclose any plans concerning Duno's future with NHL Racing.
