The downsizing trend is catching on in each and every segment of the car industry and not even niches can skip it these days. The latest example of a niche vehicle that is expected to go down this road brings the next generation of the Lexus IS-F under the spotlights.
It seems that Toyota will mount twin-turbo V6 powerplant on the next high-performance version of the IS, as the current 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 will no longer be able to live up to the efficiency and emission standards imposed by the competition.
The next IS-F’s twin-turbo V6 is expected to place around 450 hp and 450 lb-ft (609 Nm) of torque at the mercy of the driver’s right foot, which can be translated into an increase of 34 hp and 79 lb-ft (107 Nm) over what the current model has to offer.
Since BMW confirmed that the next M3 will receive a six-cylinder engine using forced induction, it means that the Mercedes C63 AMG will be the only car in this class with a V8. However, the C63 AMG will probably drop the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 in favor of the new 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8.
