It was about time for Toyota to show us its intention to replace the current Hilux pickup, which by the way, is almost 10 years old and had two facelifts already. Yeah, it is a utility vehicle but consider it as a global-market Tundra, since most other countries don’t have pickups bigger than that.
So, our spy photographers recently caught up this fully camouflaged pickup on some South European roads, which can’t be anything else than the upcoming Toyota Hilux model. We have also being told the car was benchmarked against the Volkswagen Amarok, which basically is its main competitor.

This might be an early prototype, but it still shows some of the main changes the new Hilux will come with. For example, check out the front upper grille, which now uses more of Toyota’s Keen Look design language, being narrower and continuing its lines into the slimmer headlights that flow on the truck’s corners.

Underneath that, there’s the classic trapezoidal grille everyone uses now, flanked by two other trapezoid inlets for the foglights. And speaking about lights, note the LED daytime running lights integrated into the headlight casings.

All make for a more robust looking Hilux front fascia worthy of its indestructible reputation. The hood also comes with new lines, while the previous rounded flared fenders got squared up a bit and also got more integrated into the overall design.

That’s it for now, but do keep your browsers pointed at us for more info soon.
