The 2019 Pathfinder, which will bring the fourth generation of the machine, is far from its advanced development stages, with the spied prototype being heavily camouflaged. In fact, this is why we should take the boxy rear end, which resembles that of the second-gen model (R51), with a grain of salt.

Even so, the hefty camo covering the entire car can't conceal the all-new front end that seems to follow a new styling direction.

The next generation of the Pathfinder is expected to be more than just an evolution of the model you can find in a showroom nowadays. The current R52 Pathfinder saw Nissan shifting its market approach - starting from 2015, the model was only offered in North America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and the Middle East.

In other words, the car couldn't be found in Europe, nor was it offered to Japanese customers. And while it's too early for official statements, the vehicle should at least return to the Old Continent.

While American buyers were thrilled by the 2017 model's 1,000 lbs towing capacity increase, the CVT remains the only transmission option. Given the... easy-to-improve experience the tranny provides, it was difficult to get excited over the output premium received by the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 - the unit jumped from 260 hp and 240 lb-ft to 284 horses and 259 lb-ft of twist.

Thus, the age of the current Pathfinder is still visible underneath the fresh styling cues. And this is where the 2019 model will offer a serious change.

As for the timetable, Nissan is expected to give us the new Pathfinder in about two years from now, but we'll get plenty of other occasions to bring you fresh details of the SUV by then.
