Although the brand new 2015 Corvette Z06, which is based on the seventh-generation Corvette Stingray, has yet to be unveiled, word has it the new range-topping sportscar could be the last of its kind if sales figures don’t improve over the next few years.
The news comes straight from Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter who, while talking about the new Z06, told Digital Trends that “if we don’t get sales back up, there won’t be a next one”. While the exec didn’t elaborate on the subject, Digital Trends speculates that the iconic Corvette could be discontinued around 2020.
If you ask us, it’s unlikely for General Motors to stop making the Corvette altogether, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Z06 getting the axe if sales don’t meet the company’s expectations.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet will be unwrapping the 2015 Corvette Z06, which will be “the most track-capable Corvette ever”, at the Detroit Auto Show next month. The same event will see the public introduction of the 2014 Corvette C7.R race car.
