Barbie drives one, Lindsey Lohan drove one in a movie – that’s pretty much everything you need to know about the VW Beetle. As a cabriolet, it’s even more girly, but as one of our users pointed out, it’s also a bit like cotton candy in that everybody thinks it’s stupid but secretly loves one.
Yesterday, we brought you the first photos of the uncamouflaged Beetle Cabrio, but we just couldn’t resist also showing you what the car looks like with the roof down.
There can be no denying there’s still a bit of retro left in the Beetle’s bones, as VW could have easily invented a roof that folds away cleanly in the boot, completely out of sight.
Expect powertrains to be the same as the regular Beetle coupe. In the US, that means a 2.5-liter 170 hp base car, followed by the 2-liter turbo with 200 horsepower. There should also be a TDI clean diesel with 138 hp that will do the best mileage.
