The GTI and R versions of the new Golf have been almost as popular as the regular hatchback. However, people have not yet figured out that a SportWagen is great if you want SUV space without the compromised handling.
The new 2016 model is about as rare as a Ferrari around Florida, so there's no need for tuning bits to help you stand out. However, this guy doesn't care and went straight to Vossen for a set of new alloys. That's how this car ended up on these VFS-6 19-inch wheels with sports tires.

In our opinion, this is either a dealership car (unlikely) or it's owned by a Vdub fanatic. How do we figure that? Well, judging from the silver roof rails, we are dealing with the SEL model. It starts at a whopping $30,205, which is a lot for a compact car. On top of that, the owner also paid $995 for the lighting package that offers Bi-Xenon high-intensity headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS).

The weird thing is that I don't know if the guy is going to be allowed to keep his beloved wagon. I've spent about five minutes zooming into some of the photos, and it seems the SportWagen has a TDI badge. As everybody knows, Volkswagen has issued a stop-sale for all diesel engines. From what we gather, engineers can't find a way to fix the emissions, which are several times over the legal limit.

At 8.4 seconds, the SportWagen TDI’s zero-to-60 run isn’t slow. Yet it also returns 43 miles per gallon on the highway and has a very nice torque feel. So we do understand why this guy loved his wagon and spoiled it with expensive wheels or suspension. But given the scandal, we would have taken the TDI badge off for fear of getting the paint keyed. We may be dealing with a $40,000 Golf here, as the TDI engine and the wheels are bound to cost a heap of money.
