New Volkswagen Caddy Spied Testing for 2015 Launch

Engineers testing for the VW Commercial Vehicles are pretty busy these days - after we showed you a series of spyshots with the Volkswagen Transporter T6, it is not time to see the upcoming new Caddy being tested.

The spied vehicles show heavy camouflage on both the front and the rear ends, where all of the elements will receive subtle styling changes. In addition, the small window just after the A-pillar is also different.

Just like in the case of the T6, we’re not sure if the Caddy, the smallest model in VW’s commercial vehicle range, will receive an all-new model or just a comprehensive facelift. We have to understand that while the Golf changes its platform every two generations or so, the current Caddy has a more complicated history.

The vehicle is now in its third generation, which debuted back in 2003, having received the latest important set of changes in 2010. The configuration of its platform is closer to that of the Touran than to the Golf, even though the front suspension comes from the 5th generation Golf.

While the commercial use of the car means it could stick with the same platform, if VW decides to bring the Caddy in line with the Golf 7, this means the commercial vehicle will receive the new MQB modular platform. The architecture would bring quite some advantages, including a noticeable weight reduction that could translate into an efficiency increase.

Regardless of this, the engine range will be updated, so expect the new, downsized TSI and TDI engines to end up under the Caddy’s redesigned bonnet.

In a similar fashion to the T6 Transporter, the new VW Caddy is expected to land in 2015.
