New Turbocharged BMW M3 Whines and Pops Around the `Ring

The all-new BMW M3 is a great-sounding automobile, and despite being turbocharged, the rumble of six cylinders is clearly audible, in this video from Bimmerpost. It seems that the addition of turbochargers has not corrupted the engine note we`ve come to expect from six-pot BMWs, in a similar manner to what happened to BMW’s larger super-sporty saloon, the new M5, which sounds less than impressive, to our ears.
This new car, which houses an engine about which we currently don`t have that many details, will be more powerful than the V8 car it replaces, while also having considerably more torque. The engine will not be one of the firm’s current turbocharged six-pot units (the N54 and N55), and will reportedly feature an all-new block, which is expected to be larger than the aforementioned powerplants’ three-liter displacement.

It will also shed some weight over its predecessor, through the use of carbon fiber and aluminium - we expect it to be close to the performance numbers of the V10-powered E60 M5, especially when fitted with a seamlessly-shifting twin-clutch automatic. A six-speed manual will hopefully be offered
