Spy videos usually bring us reasons to rejoice, but there are certain, admittedly rare, occasions on which these portals into the future follow the "curiosity killed the cat" rule, making us sorry about the whole inquiry.
The latest example of this kind comes from the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which brings us an aural sample of the 2018 Toyota Supra. The sportscar has been caught on camera while exiting the BMW M test center at the Nurburgring and the news is less than enticing - lens tip to the SupraMKV forums for the clip.

While the engineer behind the wheel does get pretty intimate with the gas pedal, the resulting soundtrack isn't the kind you'd want to associate with a sportscar.

We can think of two potential explanations for the future Toyota's dB shiness. Since the rumor mill has talked about a hybrid setup, we could be dealing with such hardware here.

Then there's the still-early stage of the prototype: while the BMW Z5 non-identical open-top twin of the fix-roof Toyota had its spyshot debut a while back, the Supra is still a fresh presence in our spy section. During these early development stages, the voice of the car is not the top priority.

Come to think of it, we encountered a similarly-disappointing approach when peeking inside the car, but it was obvious that the BMW parts bin mashup we showed you was far from the production form of the machine, so there was no reason to fret.

As the prototype accelerates away from the camera, when can hear the sound of an automatic gear shift. And while this sounds more like a torque converter action than a dual clutch tale, we can't be sure.

Heck, nothing is certain at this point and since we can't even place a safe bet on this car getting the Supra badge, there's no reason for this aural tale to blow out of proportion.

In fact, to get over the whole thing, we've added an image gallery showing the prototype lapping the Ring, which brings a much more enticing perspective.
