Czech carmaker Skoda has just released a new teaser photo for the Mk3 Fabia supermini, due to be revealed by the end of the month. As you've probably guessed already, this is the left headlight unit, which has gained a projector lens and a strip of daytime running lights at the bottom.
The lines are remarkably simple, almost as if Skoda wanted to make the whole thing using a ruler and compass. However, while the Rapid sedan is a bit… budget-oriented, this type of design has proven it can work on the Octavia.

Some people have even gone as far as to say the Fabia has the exact same headlights as a VW Polo. In any case, Skoda has never been concerned with design, as the Fabia has always undercut even its sister models when it came to price. The all-new model is expected to be based on the same platform as the outgoing Mk2, but powered by MQB-sourced engines.

These will include two 1.0 MPI three-cylinders (60 and 75 PS), two 1.2 TSI turbo units (90 and 110 PS) and three new 1.4 TDI common-rail diesels with outputs ranging from 75 to 105 PS. In 2015, Skoda has promised to make the Fabia into its most efficient car ver, with the help of a Greenline model that boasts fuel consumption of just 3.1 l/100 km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 82 g/km.

The ugly duckling of the supermini segment will weight up to 65 kg less than before. Another important change will be that 90mm of extra width will be added.

Since Skoda has started the teasing process with what's clearly a cropped version of a larger image, we expect the full reveal will take place at the end of the week, so stay tuned for more Skoda goodness.

Update: Skoda's Facebook page also revealed two new photos of the Fabia 3, showing the design of the grille and the upper part of the hood. Surprisingly, it looks much better than we originally thought and there's a black tint for the upper part of the headlights. We find this to be unusual for a normal supermini and it could be part of the new Fabia Monte Carlo cosmetic package. The color is also new, probably Race Blue, which is borrowed from the Octavia range.
