Everybody says they want a manual gearbox for their supercar on the internet, but when it comes time to actually buy a car, very few people actually go for the traditional stick because it makes the car slower in a drag race, less efficient and less comfortable to drive.
Porsche ditched the manual transmission altogether when it came out with the new 911 GT3, and it will do so again with the 991-gen Turbo. According to Road & Track, the ultimate Porsche all-rounder will only be available with PDK.
It will also have rear-wheel steering for extra cornering precision and high speed stability and has learned a few eco tricks from the Panamera facelift.
The engine management systems will cut the flat-six completely off at speeds of under 4 mph (6 km/h). Anther strange trick is that the PDK box will apparently use clutch slippage to generate more adequate gearing for economical driving, sort of like a CVT.
We're not exactly sure if buyers of the $150,000 car will want to put up with such eco nonsense, so hopefully you can turn it off.
