Under its new Chinese ownership, MG is making efforts to become a profitable venture and a pillar for this development is the SUV segment.
With the reinvented automaker having already introduced the mid-sized GS, we learned the company is working on two more SUVs, a small one that's set to rival the likes of the Renault Captur, as well as a larger model that will compete with vehicles such as the Nissan X-Trail.

The spyshots we have here seems to bring us the latter model and, while we know the former will use the ZS moniker, we don't have a name for the larger of the three yet. Nevertheless, the styling underneath the camo seems well-defined, so we should be dealing with an appealing exterior.

In fact, the whole setup we have here is a bit mysterious, since the pair of SUVs test cars are joined by a fastback prototype, which should be connected to the MG6.

Since MG has confirmed it is preparing a 2017 launch for the ZS, we could expect the model seen here to arrive in the same year or in the first half of 2018, judging by the length of the development cycle (taking these prototypes into consideration).

The driving experience delivered by the MG GS proves the company now sits exactly where you'd expect it to. In other words, while the affordable nature of the MG line-up is an important asset, the value for money factor doesn't top that of the established brands this new wave of SUVs is targeting.

Nevertheless, since the company seems to benefit from serious investments, the upcoming models, such as the one spied here, have serious chances of upping the ante on many fronts. Truth be told, the ride and handling chapter is one of the first that should be improved, but even the slightest pricing policy increase would ruin the already-fragile balance mentioned above, so this is not a good time for making predictions on MG's future.
