New Info on the Rolls Royce RR4 Silver Ghost
Autotelegraaf.nl reported that the soon to be called Silver Ghost will be powered by either a V8 or a V12 turbocharged petrol engine, depending on the version. The two power units can be also be found in the BMW 750 (V8) and the BMW 760i (V12).
However, possibilities of making hybrid and diesel powered versions are not entirely excluded. The RR4 will be a four coach doors vehicle, a feature first introduced on the Phantom. Its body, smaller than the aforementioned, will be made in Germany and at least for now will come only in the shape of a sedan.
The Silver Ghost could, however, benefit from coupe or convertible versions sometimes in the future. The new limousine, developed in Goodwood, should be priced in the 150,000 – 200,000 euro range. Rolls Royce estimates a top production per year of 1,000 units, doubling the company's annual production.
Having had the official sketches released in May 2008, the Rolls Royce RR4 is hoped to be a success. In 2008, despite its prohibiting prices and the economic crisis that hit the other players in the automotive industry, Rolls Royce has reported a near 20 percent increase in sales, compared to 2007, the aforementioned source said.
Last years' sales indicated a total of 1212 units sold worldwide. It is expected that the RR4, the new extra-luxury saloon automobile, will double both Rolls Royce market exposure and production output.
Rolls-Royces have often been used in popular culture as a stereotypical signifier of wealthy people. More often, the car has been used in movies as a sine qua non attribute of villains.
