New Honda Civic Type-R On Track for 2015
Speaking to Auto Express, Ito said Honda aims for the 2015 Civic R-Type to become the world’s fastest front-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring track. To do so, the new iteration of the Japanese hatch will have to beat the Renault Megane 265 Trophy’s lap time of 8 minutes and 7.9 seconds.
Developed around Honda’s experience in the World Touring Car Championship, the next Civic Type-R could boast up to 300 HP, another company representative revealed. The souped-up vehicle will be powered by either a turbocharged 1.6-liter or a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine.
The Japanese automaker also announced plans to unveil a new fuel-cell electric vehicle in 2015, while a compact SUV is also scheduled to join the lineup in the near future.
