Last week brought us the new Ford Fiesta, at least in European guise, and it didn't take long before the Fiesta ST news showed up. So while we're playing the let's-get-ahead-of-ourselves game, why not discuss the Fiesta RS?
We've brought along a rendering that sees the new Fiesta borrowing quite a few features from the 2016 Focus RS (pixel tip to X-Tomi). Given the bodykit details seen here, it's no wonder that the Focus' Nitrous Blue fits the supermini like a (driving) glove. Oh, and are those Mustang GT wheels? Probably.
Now that the seventh incarnation of the subcompact is here (Ford likes to call this the eight generation of the Fiesta, labeling the mid-cycle revamp of the Mk VI Fiesta as a standalone generation), we received the confirmation on the Fiesta RS rumors being fake. Sure, the carmaker had denied the possibility of the now-old Fiesta to get an RS badge on multiple occasions, but we couldn't be 100 percent certain.
Nevertheless, with the new Fiesta set to receive its ST version in 2017, as a 2018 model, the Blue Oval could give us an RS after that. In fact, Ford should deliver an even spicier Fiesta and it's enough to look at the success of the new Focus RS to understand that.
The range-topping Focus hasn't just caused a stir in the hot hatch segment or dared to challenge the Mustang GT, but it has also brought a massive benefit for the carmaker and it's Ford Performance division, which is now a truly global effort - in fact, the only strong argument against such a model has to do with the U.S. market's lack of subcompact vehicle love.
However, with the future Fiesta ST rumored to do gown the three-cylinder turbo path (we probably need to use the turbo-three tag), an RS with one extra cylinder would make plenty of sense.
