Yamaha discovered than on certain motorcycles, one of the transmission components might cause problems and cause the gearbox to malfunction, with severe consequences over the safety of the rider, passenger and with potential property damage.

The shift cam segment stopper may crack and break

The motorcycle manufacturer says that over time, the shift cam segment stopper may cause and break. If this part fails, using the shifting gear may cause the transmission to miss a shift or even engage a different gear than intended.

If you've ever shifted improperly and had your bike inadvertently jumping from the gear you selected to the previous one, then you know how lousy this feels and how good a scare this can be. Unfortunately, in certain cases, this mishap can be very dangerous, causing riders to lose control of the motorcycle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Transport Canada mentions that 614 motorcycles from the 2015 version of the FZ09, FZ6R, YZF-R6 and XZT12 (Super Tenere) are expected to pay a visit to the dealerships and have their shift shaft assembly replaced with an updated version. No reports of crashes or injuries surfaced by the time of writing.
