Mugen Confirms Civic Type R 'Mugen' Prototype

According to the press release issued by Mugen, the tuned up Civic will make use of a special flavor of Honda's 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine to produce more power and torque. Brakes, exhaust and suspensions will also receive some treatment from Mugen Euro, the Northampton-based subsidiary of Honda's long standing tuning partner Mugen.
Though Mugen didn't come up with official specs, it's likely that the souped up engine will generate somewhere around 237 bhp, allowing the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than six seconds, with a maximum speed rated at 155 mph (250 km/h).
"In standard trim, the Civic Type R is a thrilling machine to drive," said Hiro Toyoda, Vice President of MUGEN EURO. "It is a fantastic base model from which we hope to develop one of the quickest point to point front-wheel-drive road cars in the country."
In terms of appearance, the Civic will benefit from a boost in menace thanks to an aerodynamic package including a larger rear boot spoiler.
Unfortunately for fans, the press release notes that here are currently no plans for a production model.
