Motorcycles Can Drive through Red Lights in Wisconsin
A special law was passed in 2006, and it actually allows riders to pass through the red lights under certain circumstances. Such circumstances are having waited for at least 45 seconds at the red light in an intersection with traffic sensors and making sure the crossroads is clear.
We've mentioned he reason behind this law earlier in this article, and we still stand by our words. Since many motorcycles are not easily detected by the traffic sensors, riders could very well wait long minutes in automatically-regulated intersections, sometimes in blistering sun, some other times in heavy rain... and this doesn't help anybody.
Now, while it's also true that some riders will misuse the law, we're pretty sure not many of them are willing to risk losing their license and money for 45 seconds of waiting. However, it's Glass who also tells us that he also rides with a copy of the state statute all the time, as he mentions that police officers don't always know the law exists.
