Combining aircraft industry technology with quintessentially British craftsmanship, the Plus 8 is one of the core models in Morgan's current lineup. To celebrate 100 years in the business of vehicle manufacturing, the British carmaker announced it will build the Plus 8 Speedster Limited Edition. As the name suggests, only a handful of vehicles will be produced at the Morgan factory in Malvern, Worcestershire.
Inspired by the bygone era of stripped back road going race cars, the standard Plus 8 is the lightest V8 passenger car in the world approved to European safety standards. In Speedster flavor, this car sports a series of eccentric styling features and is said to offer an even more engaging driving experience than the standard model.
Under the hood you'll find a 4.8-liter BMW V8 engine with 367 horsepower and 370 lb-ft (490 Nm) of torque, which can be mated to a standard six-speed manual or an optional ZF six-speed automatic gearbox. Thanks to the unladen weight of only 1,100 kilograms, 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) comes in only 4.2 seconds, and the car will keep on accelerating right up to the 148 mph (238 km/h) mark.
Thanks to its aluminum chassis design and low weight, the Morgan Plus 8 Speedster's performance figures perfectly match its timeless curvaceous lines. Potential customers can improve on its design by choosing any number of styling features available in the options list.
