Mitsubishi calls the new concept XM, and it will be revealed at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, scheduled later this month. The name XM comes from the two body styles that were involved in the creation of this small crossover, an SUV and an MPV.

Mitsubishi has already confirmed a production model inspired by this concept, which is set to enter production in October 2017 at a new factory that will be located in the Bekasi Prefecture of the West Java Province.

The latest concept vehicle from Mitsubishi features the brand’s “Dynamic Shield” front end design, along with a few bold styling features. The idea behind this exhibit is a vehicle that comes with the advantages of an SUV, along with traits borrowed from an MPV, all under a small body.

The Japanese automaker has focused on the functionality of an SUV and the interior practicality of an MPV. Therefore, the vehicle has a generous ground clearance, along with sporty lines to make it attractive to young customers. The most interesting parts of this car besides the front end are its front and rear fenders, which are beefed-up to inspire stability and confidence.

Mitsubishi has already announced the interior of this model will have three-row seating, which will be capable of seating seven occupants in a comfortable manner. Furthermore, a variety of seating arrangements will be possible, so customers that do not need that many seats will still enjoy the interior in other ways.

Inside, the Mitsubishi XM' coloring is focused on black and white high-contrast surfaces, while silver accents bring a new level of refinement. The center console will be elevated for more practicality, a feature that is inspired by modern MPVs.

Mitsubishi has not announced global distribution plans for its future small crossover, but we would not exclude this possibility. However, the factory that will be commissioned in early 2017 in Indonesia makes us believe Mitsubishi will only sell the production model inspired by the XM concept in the Asia-Pacific markets.
