In his black MINI ALL4 Racing car, Stephane Peterhansel, the en-title champion of the Dakar Rally managed to distance himself over the rest of the crowd throughout a 422 km stage.
The 9th stage of this year’s event took the drivers from Calama to Iquique, both of them in Chile, Peterhansel finishing 2:17 minutes ahead of the runner-up, his MINI teammate, Nasser Al-Attiyah from Qatar.
"I'm really satisfied with today's stage. The Atacama desert is one of the biggest challenges at the Dakar Rally. It was a trouble free day for us and I'm really confident for the rest of the Dakar Rally. My co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret and the whole team are doing a great job," Stéphane Peterhansel said after crossing the line in Iquique.
The top 4 positions were occupied by MINI cars. Apart from the champ and the runner-up, Joan “Nani” Roma finished third whilst the 4th spot was claimed by Orlando Terranova.
