MINI Shows Us Exactly How Its Augmented Vision Glasses Work

When we first heard about MINI’s new invention, the Augmented Vision glasses, I thought that they have potential but they won’t be anything more than a toy that helps out with the head-up display. As a matter of fact, it’s a lot more than that, and the video the Brits just posted online tells us all about it.

That’s because it showcases everything the glasses are capable of and, believe us, there’s a handful of tricks in there that are more than interesting.

First of all, as soon as you put them on, you’re greeted with a personalized message and, if you want, directions to a certain destination are projected into your field of view. Depending on your choice, you can walk to your destination or drive, in which case, the glasses will guide you to your car.

Once there, the guidance can be transferred to your car’s navigation system from where it takes over. HUD becomes obsolete as the new device can show you every piece of info you need on it.

The glasses can then scan various posters, flyers and QR codes and book tickets or tell you how much they cost. And that’s just a part of what they’re capable of, outside the automotive realm.

For example, they can read text messages you get from your friends out loud so that you keep your eyes on the road at all time. Using carefully placed cameras, you’ll be able to basically see through your car’s body, as with some sort of X-Ray vision. On top of that, other cameras will help out while parking so you can keep your wheels intact and far from the curb.

Yes, after watching this video, if things work as they are portrayed here, we’d like a pair, please!
