MINI Rocketman Slated for Production
“We are good at looking at history and interpreting a future for it,” BMW’s sales and marketing boss Ian Robertson was quoted as saying by Autocar. “The themes in the car are not just about a smaller Mini,” he said. “Lightweight construction, and new types of components will go on to Minis. The BMW i-concept [lightweight and alternative energy] will be available to all members of the group.”
Although he commented on a potential mass-produced Rocketman, Robertson hasn't given clear indications regarding the concept's features that could make it to production, hinting that the original MINI design cues are very likely to continue on future projects as well.
“The core of the Mini brand is always going to be the Mini three door and Convertible,” he said.
The Rocketman concept came equipped with many innovative features, such as the door and tailgate system that provide easier access. The tailgate is made of two parts, one of which is attached to the roof and opens extremely high while the lower section extends out of the body in the form of a drawer.
