Mercedes to Ditch US E550 V8 for Twin-Turbo V6
According to Motortrend, the German automaker is looking to embrace the reportedly growing trend towards small displacement engines and thus dropping its 4.7-liter V8.
It's not quite easy to estimate the impact this move will have on Mercedes-Benz in the US market, but we can notice that while the new power train will be more fuel efficient, it will cut down on performance since the twin-turbo V6 has about 72 hp less that the V8's 402 hp. We say that because the "400" has been rumored to offer 333 hp in Germany on the upcoming C-Class replacement.
Otherwise, Europe may still get the Mercedes-Benz E500 (E550 in the United States) in all its versions: sedan, coupe and convertible.
