Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series Confirmed

Mercedes-AMG’s Director of Vehicle Development, Tobias Moers, told Motor Trend that the creation of such a vehicle is a certainty. Of course, he didn’t say anything about the specs of the car, so we can only rely on the aforementioned specualtion, which shows that the car’s 6.2-liter V8 will be tweaked to deliver around 610 hp and 499 lb-ft (677 Nm) of torque.
Mercedes is also developing another hardcore version of the SLS, the road-going incarnation of the car’s GT3 racing model. However, the news ins’t all good, as the executive told the aforementioned source that this won’t be brought to the US.
The car has to be released in Europe for homologation, but such a motivation doesn’t exist in America, since it doesn’t race in the US and the, considering the fact that it would sell an extremely limited volume, the carmaker doesn’t want to make the move.
Moers also talked about the SLS E-Cell, the electric version of the car. This will arrive in Europe in 2012 or 2013, but the company isn’t sure that it will also offer it on the American market, with the same volume issue being cited.
Let’s hope Mercedes choses to look at long-term image benefits rather than at the immediate return on investment.
