Mercedes Reportedly Replacing C-Coupe with CLK
text size: A- A+
Two very large question marks are still hanging over this report, one being that it suggests the CLK is coming in 2015 or 2016, the other being the fact that Mercedes has officially announced it wants to simplify its naming system. Two-door prototypes of the W205 C-Class Coupe have already been spotted, which makes it hard to believe that we’ll have to wait another 2 or 3 years.
What we can believe is that the C-Coupe or CLA will have downsized turbo engines. These will reportedly include three versions of the the familiar 2.1-liter diesel, a 1.6-liter turbo for the base 180 petrol models, followed by a 2.0-liter turbo with 184 hp for the C/CLK 200, 211 hp for the 250 model and 252 hp for the 300.
Two new petrol engines will arrive in the form of the twin-turbo 3-liter V6 with 333 hp to be used by all Mercedes’ 400 models and the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 462 hp to be offered in C 55 AMG models.
Editor’s note: In 2008 they tried to make it a CLC hatch-coupe but soon dropped it. What gives? I thought the C-Coupe was very popular!
