It's really hard not to think of the negative aspects or the past owners of 600 Mercedes models, which include Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, Yugoslavia's Josip Tito or Pol Pot from Cambodia. So it's all too easy to call this the dictator's car of the 21st century. But to their credit, Mercedes have built a really modern and practical car based on the Maybach version of the S-Class.

Prior to the Geneva Motor Show debut, a host of information has been unloaded, which included the fact that this is an S600 model, powered by a 6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine making 530 horsepower. The four-door 2+2+2 model is longer by a massive 1053 mm than the Maybach and its wheelbase is longer than most cars on the road at 4418 mm, which means the passengers have plenty of room to stretch.

Two executive seats have been installed in the back and they come complete with every form of adjustability, including the possibility to recline up to 43.5 degrees and electrically raise a footrest. A special kind of electro-sensitive glass has been used to separated the passagers from the driver. At the press of a button, it goes opaque, just like the roof of an SL-Class roadster.

Just like the regular Maybach, a Burmester 3D surround sound system has been installed and there's also an 18.5-inch display for the entertainment system.

The armored version is expected to start at around $1 million

Prices for the unarmored version are expected to start somewhere at around €500,000 or $570,000, while the armored version is likely to start at around $1 million, as with previous-generation Pullmans. Speaking of which, the VR9-level ballistic protection is expected to be borrowed from the S600 Guard, complete with a supply of air and chemical weapons resistance.

"Quite apart from providing stately and stylish seating for high-ranking passengers in the comfort and spaciousness for which it is famed, the new Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is of course the embodiment of exclusivity at its highest level," said Ola Kallenius, member of the Daimler AG Management Board responsible for sales and marketing of Mercedes-Benz cars. "One can sense the significance and greatness of it in every detail."

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
