It’s pretty amusing to see the mud flying up in the open air above you while you’re going through a harsh off-road section - this is just one of the things you can do if you get yourself a Mercedes G-Class Cabriolet. Alas, you won’t be able to do that anymore, since the model is now going out of production.
The G-Class Cabrio was being offered as the Final Edition 200 and now the order list has been closed, as confirmed for us by a Mercedes-Benz source. The G-Class Cabriolet Final Edition 200 meant you could enjoy the finer things in life. It was only offered as a G500, offering a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8, coming with various distinct exterior and interior features. You can get a look at the vehicle in the gallery below.
Mercedes put the short-wheelbase G-Class to sleep when they introduced the latest facelift for the range and now the disappearance of the Cabriolet only leaves us with the five-door incarnation of the G-Class. Sure, there’s also the G63 AMG 6x6 psychedelic mammoth, but since you need about half a million euros to get your hands on one, we can’t really take it into consideration.
We’ve always had a thing for the Geländewagen, whether it was the G63 AMG or the G350 CDI oil burner. Thus, we couldn’t let the Cabriolet go away without spending some time together. This is why we recently took a 2013MY G500 Cabriolet for a spin. Our tester had been forced to wear a few Mansory tuning bits, but these fortunately limited to the visual part of the deal.
We’ll share our experience with you on Thursday, when we publish our Mercedes G500 Cabriolet test drive. Until then, we're giving you the picture above.
