The onslaught of SUVs with coupe lines isn't going to stop!. It all started with the BMW X6 and doesn't show any signs of slowing down, especially when you consider even Audi is going to offer a few of its own soon.

"GLC Coupe" is what we call the yellow concept car you see in the photo gallery below. It was presented at the beginning of this week during the Shanghai Auto Show and is unapologetically aimed at BMW X4 customers.

Its sleek rear end evokes the design of the C-Class, while the rest of the body is pretty much identical to the GLC-Class SUV, which is only a few months away from being shown.

Some of the more extreme features on the concept, such as the super-thin door mirrors and the exhaust system won't make it into production, chief engineer Eberhard Kelz has confirmed. But everything else is good to go, including the twin-turbo V6 engine that came with the concept.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber told The Detroit Bureau the production model will come out after the launch of the GLC and GLS. That's a little vague, but we're pretty sure you won't see it until the summer of 2016.

“There is a healthy interest in SUVs, not only in China, but also worldwide,” Weber said. “Globally, the segment is good for 26% of the car sales and is expected to further increase. We are very confident about our future in China, where we have added 100 dealerships in 2014 and increased sales by 28% to 270,000 units. This year, the company expects to sell considerably more than 300,000 units, while also adding another 50 dealerships.”

The underpinnings for Mercedes' smallest SAC will come from the W205 C-Class, as will the engines. We're expecting the range to kick off with the GLC 220 d Coupe making 177 PS and go all the way up to the GLC 450 AMG Coupe powered by that V6 we just mentioned. This model will have 367 PS, but some people are still hoping the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine making 476 PS might be offered.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
