Mercedes-Benz has teamed up with golf cart maker Garia to turn a design concept into reality.
We are talking about a premium golf cart, imagined by Mercedes-Benz. They call it the Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car, and its makers say it “defines a new class of transport” on the golf course. The result was created after Mercedes-Benz invited golf and automobile fans to submit their ideas for a golf cart with the three-pointed star logo.
The project led to the creation of one of the coolest golf carts we have ever seen, and it manages to remain practical and be futuristic at the same time. Meanwhile, the interior has a tablet which controls driving functions, and the cabin is finished in premium materials.
An electronic scorecard is integrated, as well as a weather app. Occupants can also view the layout of the golf course, as well as switch between driving modes.
The electric golf car promises incredibly smooth driving on the golf course and roads, and it comes with direction indicators, headlamps, and rear lights, which allow it to be eligible to receive approval for road use in the USA. Its electric motor provides three kilowatts, but can deliver up to eleven kilowatts for short periods.
Since the cart only weighs 440 kilograms (970 pounds) and has a permissible payload of 460 kg (1014 pounds), it can provide sporty acceleration. Its front disc brakes step in to slow things down quickly when needed. For safety reasons, top speed is restricted to 30 km/h (18 mph). The range is estimated at approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles), and its lithium-ion battery is fully charged in six hours.
Garia will first build two drivable examples of this model, but positive response from the market and potential clients will lead to series production. Interestingly, this golf cart will be mainly sold through digital channels, as it was designed from the start as a vehicle for the modern age.
