As we recently found out, the Mercedes G-Class will stick around until 2020, with the carmaker exteinding the vehicle's production contract for this term. Thus, if the off-roading machine wants to survive in an era that praises efficiency, it has to do something to earn some green crediblity.
While that might sound impossible, Mercedes-Benz has an ace up its sleeve. A company source, the same one that told us the sales of the G55 AMG have been put on hold until the arrival of the facelifted model, confirmed for autoevolution that the G-Class will get a hybrid version, which is expected to arrive by the end of next year. We were also told that its powertrain will be comprised by an electirc motor and a petrol engine "with a capacity of between 3 and 4 liters".

We expect the green G (we never expected to put those two in the same sentence) to use the carmaker’s 3.5-liter 306 hp V6 engine (the one we tested on the SLK), but nothing has been confirmed yet.
