We already knew Mercedes-Benz was close to releasing the first member of its new AMG Sport breed, which is slotted in between the proper Affalterbach machines and the standard Benz metal, but now we have a time coordinate for the move - the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
The NAIAS floor will see Mercedes introduce the C 450 AMG Sport, the first of this line that will battle it out with Audi’s S models, BMW’s more recent M Sport models, as well as Cadillac’s even newer V Sport pieces. Company executives have confirmed this for Automotive News, so you’d better be prepared for the fresh badge.

Over the next few years, the AMG Sport magic wand will touch most of the models in the carmaker’s range. Thus, the treatment will be applied to the A-, C-, E- and S-Class, as well as reaching the carmaker’s crossover/SUV side, with the GLA, GLK, M and GL. Oh and let’s not forget the upcoming M-Class Coupe.

Returning to the C 450 AMG Sport, the vehicle will be motivated by a tweaked version of the company’s new 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine, the one found under the hood of Mercedes’ “400” models. The powerplant will see its output boosted from 333 to 367 hp, while the torque is expected to sit at 550 Nm (406 lb-ft).

The previous spyshots of the C 450 AMG Sport Estate (T-Modell) have revealed the presence of 4Matic badges on the car and while this will most likely be an option, we’ll be dealing with one super-drivable package here.

As a comparison, Audi’s aging S4 features a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 333 hp, while BMW’s twin-scroll, single-turbo 3.0-liter L6 delivering 320 hp. The 4-Series Coupe is expected to receive a 340 hp version of the engine, which could be taken even further by the M Performance folks, as a model per se or thanks to the Performance Parts catalog.

As for the financial side, we’re talking about supped-up German metal here, so expect a matching price. For instance, the C 450 AMG Sport Estate should start at about EUR 65,000 in Germany.
