Mercedes-Benz 300SL Looks Great Even When Made Out of Legos

Yes, yes, we know it’s been like 24 hours since we last showed you a Mercedes-Benz Lego model, but come on, whose fault is it that people continue to build legendary Mercedes cars out of legendary plastic bricks?

As we said yesterday, the G-Class is basically begging to be turned into a Lego model, and it all has to do with the rectangular shape of its body. To take on the task of doing the same thing with the swooping Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, now that takes a lot of guts, skill and commitment.

It appears the author of the model car you’ll see below possessed plenty of them all, as his creation - while not entirely true to the original - resembles the Gullwing well enough. After all, how close can you possibly get when all you have at your disposal are pierced bits of plastic and tubes?

Pretty close, it would appear. If we’re to be honest, all you actually need is a car with a long hood, big round headlights, a correctly shaped grille and those iconic gullwing doors, and there you have it - it’s a Mercedes-Benz 300SL. Make the exterior gray (Lego pieces don’t come in silver, yet) and the interior red and you’re one step closer to an even closer to reality representation.

Now that we’ve congratulated the guy, let’s move on to more serious stuff and talk about what looks a bit off. First of all, anyone who’s ever played with Lego will know that the so-called Mercedes-Benz logo is actually a steering wheel from the regular Lego sets (not the Technic ones). And then there are the headlights. They’re round, alright, but they make the 300SL look like a disoriented chameleon. It looks in pain, like the pressure inside is too great and its eyes are about to pop out.

But it’s still a cool model. You can see it even comes with a four-speed gearbox, enough to squeeze three km/h (that’s under two mph) out of the 1.5 kg model. The ride is a little on the bumpy side, though.
