Now that the Mercedes-AMG GT R has been unveiled, there are a lot of “regular” GT and GT S owners that are trying to pick their jaws off the floor.
It's always bad when you own an expensive sports car, and suddenly a mid-cycle facelift or a much better version of your vehicle is launched, but the GT R probably pushed all GT and GT S owners into depression.
Thankfully, there are tuners out there who might alleviate some of that depression through some pretty angry-looking body kits, and for the example at hand, we have Prior Design. The company's PD800GT Widebody kit is not exactly new, having been launched in 2015, but it's worth a second look now that the hardcore GT R has seen the light of day.
The peeps at West Coast Motoring, in California, were the first to fit a Mercedes-AMG GT S with the body kit mentioned above, and, so far, the car is still the only one of its kind in the United States.
While what looks like the deep “Brilliant Blue Metallic” color is an eye-catching detail in its own right, it's the aerodynamic add-ons that really make a difference compared to a standard GT S. The extra wide body kit consists of a front lip spoiler, canards and fender flares, a vented hood, side skirts, rear fender flares, a rear aero diffuser and canards and a rear deck spoiler.
West Coast Motoring also added a set of Forgiato Copiato wheels, shoed in Pirelli PZero Nero GT tires (255/30 21 in the front and 295/25 22 in the rear). To make the package stand out even more, the model also has a front grille painted in gloss black, a smoked Mercedes-Benz star and a host of Matte Metallic Gold inserts.
In fact, if it weren't for the Matte Metallic Gold bits, the Mercedes-AMG GT S Prior Design PD800GT Widebody would look like an actual street version of the GT3 racecar version, just like the GT R.
