After the highly successful GLK, the three-pointed star followed it up with an even better compact luxury crossover SUV. Compared to the GLK, the GLC will also spawn a full-on AMG.
And no, I’m sorry, but the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic with its twin-turbo V6 doesn’t count as a real AMG. The GLC 43 is, all things considered, just a moderately powerful crossover beautified with AMG badges here and there. The GLC 63, however, is the full-fat monster I’m looking forward to.
Supercarsfromeu076 spotted not one, but two pre-production prototype of the thing in Germany. The first wears minimal camouflage on its front bumper, and so does the second car in the following spy video. The bumper is laden with gaping air intakes, the muscular wheel wells add a taut look to the car's profile, and the quad-exhaust means business.
Look a little more closely to either pre-production prototype and you’ll spot that both GLC 63s are equipped with Performance Seats. In the case of the C63 and C63 S, this body-hugging seating option is priced at $2,500. Other details that are worthy of being mentioned are the brakes: red calipers on all corners, drilled and slotted rotors up front, drilled rotors at the rear.
But let’s be frank here. A proper AMG isn’t to be admired for its visual characteristics, but for the sound it makes. And boy does the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4Matic deliver aural pleasure by the bucket load. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 lying under the hood growls in anger like a wounded lion. Though unconfirmed as of yet, the M177 V8 might be offered in two states of tune.
For the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4Matic, we’re expecting 476 PS (469 horsepower) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of twist sent to all four wheels. The GLC 63 S 4Matic, however, will pony up 510 PS (503 horsepower) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). Look forward to the production-spec GLC 63 to step into the limelight at the 2016 Paris Motor Show this autumn.
