37-year old bus driver Dave Sherry from Harlow, Essex, is usually riding his bike to work, which implies a 40-mile round-trip commute to the train station. Since he’s been a professional driver for over 12 years, the man believes the traffic in UK’s busiest city is often quite chaotic because of some motorists who simply won’t respect the law. This is why he uses three cameras to film those who break the rules which he later sends to police.
Most of the footage goes on his YouTube account where drivers basically get humiliated for their really bad way of driving, yet the worst examples he films end up in the hands of the police. This is how, according to Sherry, more than 70 convictions for a variety of driving offenses have been made so far.
Sure being a vigilante in London is not really the most comfortable job out there, especially that some of the bad motorists over react, often refer to physically assaulted if not a lot of yelling and swearing.
“It’s like a minor war zone out there. Some idiot drove into the back of my bike. I was late for work and I got penalized for that. I called the ‘old Bill’ but at the end of the day it was my word against his. To make it fair, I started putting cameras on my bike and helmet. Riding a bike on the road is a right and cyclists are not second class citizens,” Sherry told BBC.
Even though the popularity of cycling in London has increase significantly especially between 2000 to 2012, the UK’s capital city is till believed to be quite unsafe for riders we use the two wheeler to commute to work.
However, things have started to improve in the last years, especially having Boris Johnson, a cycling advocate, as the mayor of the city. In March 2013, City Hall announced a £1 billion of improvements to make cycling safer and easier in London, as well as to improve air pollution and inner city congestion in the capital.
