McLaren Working on Customer Racing Program, Track-Only P1

McLaren is a company that was born on the track. It’s funny then that the Brits do not have a customer racing program like, say, Ferrari and Lamborghini do. Well, it looks like all that is about to change, as revealed by a recent letter sent out to its customers.
Somebody over in Woking took the time to send a letter to all of the 375 owners of the P1, talking about a track-destined version of the hypercar. This came after multiple customers asked McLaren if such a devil would be considered.

More importantly, McLaren plans to come up with a customer racing program - Ferrari, for instance, makes quite a lot of money with their Corse Clienti, so why wouldn’t their rivals mirror this?

The letter asked customers to express their interest for an even meaner version of the P1. It was mentioned that the track animal would enter production once they stop building the P1 next year. Of course, “production” is a relative terms, as McLaren apparently only wants to take this game to the low two-digit area.

Since the vehicle will be confined to the track, its release will not affect the exclusivity of the P1. Unless some P1 owner stops at a traffic light and sees the racing version on a platform next to him.

The big question here is whether customers of the P1 track edition will actually receive their cars or if McLaren will follow Ferrari’s XX example - this sees the Prancing Horse keeping the cars to itself and scheduling a series of events for customers each year.
