McLaren P1 UTE Rendered as the Pickup Truck that Will Never Happen

We're ready to bet big bucks on the fact that some looney aficionado out there would enjoy adding a McLaren P1 UTE to his hypercar collection. Sure, Woking would never allow such a thing, but since this is the world wide web, we figured we could have a bit of fun and bring you this rendering.
The image, which comes from digital artist Yasid Oozeear, who wanted to show us how a P1 pickup truck would look like. Truth be told, the pixel master did a pretty good job and, thanks to the fine details of the image we have here' it's not difficult to turn to our imagination and continue the thin lines that makes up the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 sitting in the bed.

On a more serious note, this fictional derivative makes us think of how aggressively the British automaker is expanding its lineup. Just yesterday we showed you the first real life photo of the 688 High Sport, a development that saw certain 675 Longtail owners getting angry.

Those people believed their 675LTs would be the ultimate Woking machines of the moment (P1 production is over, remember?), with the 500-unit exclusivity asset being extremely important to them.

And their reaction to the 688 HS was similar to the one they had when the carmaker announced it would make an extra 500 LTs, albeit in Spider form. The open-top Longtail was sold out in two weeks, by the way.

In our book, McLaren did the right thing prioritizing long-term range development over short term customer risk avoidance. After all, Woking knows when to stop. And the best example of this comes from the company steering clear of milking the SUV cash cow.

Since McLaren only returned to building road cars in 2011, the brand is too young to risk confusing its clientele with a high-riding model, so Woking ended up trolling other big names that put their identities at stake by going down this path.
