Public image is one of the most important aspects of running a car manufacturing company. Of course, making good cars helps a lot, but building an image through tradition takes a lot of time. And McLaren just can’t afford waiting.

Therefore someone from the British company’s marketing department had the idea of releasing a “making of” video featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the development of their MP4-12C supercar. And the video did its job of getting everybody to talk about the MP4-12C, as it includes the first moving images of the new British supercar.

The short movie also includes engineers talking about the development process, views of Chris Goodwin, chief test driver for McLaren, about how the car handles in difficult situations and Dick Glover, technical director of McLaren Automotive and head of the testing and development team, taking you around the state-of-the-art Mclaren Technology Centre.

Glover says: "Having to develop a brand new range of cars from scratch to the standards expected of McLaren, featuring ground-breaking new structures and powertrain is the ultimate challenge and one we are relishing. Sure, we have challenges - that is why we go to these places that absolutely push the cars to their limits and beyond - but now we know just what the 12C is capable of, we are able to push on into 2010 and deliver cars of which McLaren will be rightly proud."

Whether you prefer a McLaren over something more Italian, it’s a personal choice. But the video will certainly take your mind off Ferrari.
