In order to do so, the manufacturer which has a staff of 20 employees, has managed to catch the “gold fish”of the car manufacturing design world. Specifically, Rivian Automotive has recently hired Peter Stevens as director of design.
A thing worth mentioning is that Stevens also helped in designing the McLaren F1 the Jaguar XJR-15 Le Mans racer, Lotus Esprit and Elan and also an MG ZT-T, which hit 225.609mph (approx.363km/h) at Bonneville. The Florida-based company aims to manufacture a mid-engine, rear wheel drive sports car with a two-plus-two seating configuration.
“It is very seldom that a designer gets an opportunity to be involved from the earliest stages in a truly creative project. Our design philosophy is to confirm to the purchaser that this is a company that knows its customers to be enlightened people who share the same ideals as Rivian. Those customers, like the team at Rivian, want their driving experiences to be entertaining, and their purchase to be visually appealing,” Peter Stevens Design Director of Rivian Automotive was quoted as saying by emgcartech.com.
For the moment the company isn’t releasing images or performance data, but it is expected that the model will achieve a fuel economy better than 60mpg(approx. 4L/100km) and will hit the market at about $30,000.
The company was founded originally as Avera Motors but was forced to change its name after Hyundai filed a suite over confusion between its Azera model and the Avera name. As a consequence of the law suit, the company became Rivian Automotive in 2010.
