In theory, a drag race between a McLaren 12C Spider and a 991-generation Porsche 911 Cabriolet should be pretty simple and yet the acceleration brawl we have here is anything but.
For one thing, the Woking supercar isn't stock, but due to some tech issues, it doesn't fully raise to the tuning expectations one might have. To be more specific, the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 occupying the middle section of this Macca has been gifted with an ECU remap, which was handled by FAB.

However, according to the uploader of the video, the 12C has boost leaks, so we could turn to humor and say the result of the aftermarket work only brought the McLaren back to its factory performance.

Then there's the nature of the race. The two met on an airfield in Sweden, so there was plenty of room for just about any kind of velocity shenanigan the drivers could think of.

Alas, the fight involved a rolling start, which didn't allow the Neunelfer to use its monstrous all-wheel-drive take-off advantage. That's quite a shame, especially since the MP4-12C Spider dominates the 911 Turbo Cabriolet in terms of the power-to-weight ratio.

While we're talking scale footprint, we need to mention that each supercar came with a passenger playing the cameraman role, but the piece of footage at the bottom of the page was captured from inside the Porscha. Sure, none of these twin-turbo 3.8-liter engines can deliver a memorable soundtrack, but, if you ask us, the flat-six clearly makes for the best aural choice here, which is why we're glad we ended up with this camera take.

Even with the reported boost pressure issues, we have a feeling the McLaren driver knew what he was doing when he called the Porsche 911 guy out and we're inviting you to check out the moment behind the "play" button below.
