Mazda Upgrades RX-8 in Japan
The standard equipment offered across the range now includes rain-sensing windshield wipers, auto-light system, water-repellent coating (on the front door windows and door mirrors) and Mazda’s advanced keyless entry and engine start system. There are two new body colors, Aluminum Metallic and Metropolitan Gray Mica, which raise the total number of exterior colors to seven.
Additionally, the RX-8 is now available in a new base model codenamed Type G, powered by the same water-cooled in-line engines and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This particular version is priced at 2,630,000 yen ($27,700) with all taxes included.
A new upgrade - or should we say downgrade? - is represented by the so-called "audio-less" specification standard for all model grades. In other words, the Japanese manufacturer removed the audio system but is still offering the space for a head unit in the center panel in order to allow RX-8 owners to install their very own audio system.
As a conclusion, the RX-8 is now offered in four different trims in Japan, Type G, Type E, Type S and Type RS, available with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission and sold at pricing ranging between 2,630,000 yen ($27,700) and 3,180,000 yen ($33,500) with all taxes included.
