Mazda’s CX-5 crossover became an instant hit, thanks to its efficient SKYACTIV engines and transmission and cool styling. However, this model is something other than what we expected. While it does fit under the CX-9 in the range, it’s also quite big, bigger than a VW Tiguan for example.
In 2014, Mazda will launch an even smaller crossover to satisfy demand for a really compact crossover. It will be called the CX-3 and will share its platform with the next Mazda2 superimini.

Australian magazine CarAdvice, who broke the story of a smaller Mazda crossover back in February last year, has released this rendering of what the vehicle could look like. It’s a mix of elements from the CX-5 and the 2 supermini and it looks quite good if you ask us, certainly better than the Opel Mokka.

Powertrain options could reportedly include a turbo 1.3-liter petrol and a 1.6-liter turbo diesel. The base models will come with a FWD to keep the price and fuel economy down.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
