Maserati’s plan to sell 50,000 units per year by 2015 doesn’t seem that far fetch suddenly, as the Italian automaker has already booked 22,500 orders this year, an all-time record that smashed the previous sales benchmark of 9,000 examples in 2008
According to Automotive News, most orders were placed on the redesigned Quattroporte and the brand new Ghibli, about 9,900 and 7,900 respectively, while the Gran Turismo and the Gran Cabrio models were sold to about 5,500 customers. Last year, Maserati sold 6,300 cars, likely to become a quarter of this year’s final figures.
The Modena-based automaker expects to reach its 50,000-unit goal with the launch of the Maserati Levante SUV, which should sell up to 25,000 examples annually. Production of the Levante will start by the end of 2014, at Fiat’s Mirafiori assembly plant.
