When we hear the “Maserati Quattroporte” name, we can’t help thinking about the future generation of the Italian supersaloon. This is expected to come with downsizing solutions and AWD and should hit the market in 2014.

However, the Italian automaker is showing us that the current generation of the vehicle still has plenty to offer. The carmaker has used the Australian International Motor Show to introduce a new, range-topping version of the Quattroporte.

Dubbed Quattroporte Sport GT S MC Sportline, the vehicle is based on the top incarnation of the Quattroporte, the GT S. The new version is fitted with the Maserati MC Sportline equipment package, which has been created by Maserati Corse, the company’s racing division.

The new incarnation of the vehicle brings multiple changes for the interior. The wood trimming is replaced by carbon fiber elements. The racing-inspired material is used for the instrument cluster, center console and door inserts. It is also the material of choice for the side sills, which come with an MC Sportline logo. Another element that has received the MC logo is the aluminum brake pedal.

The vehicle has kept the GT S’4.7 liter V8, so it offers 440 hp and a peak torque of 490 Nm, dealing with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 5.1 seconds and being able to reach a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/h). However, the sequential manual auto transmission now has a Sport mode with faster shifting times and features carbon fiber shift paddles (these are generously-sized) placed behind the wheel.
